How to Use Isola I-Tera® MT40 Ultra Low Loss Laminate Material Data

The Isola I-Tera® MT40 is a high-performance laminate and prepreg material designed for very low-loss applications in high-speed digital and RF/microwave PCBs. This material is characterized by a stable dielectric constant (Dk) of 3.45 and a very low dissipation factor (Df) of 0.0031 across a broad frequency and temperature range (-55°C to +125°C), making it an excellent choice for designs requiring minimal signal loss and high reliability .

For PCB stackup design using I-Tera® MT40, consider the following guidelines:

  • Utilize the available thicknesses ranging from 2 to 18 mil for laminates, ensuring compatibility with the design requirements of your application.
  • Choose the appropriate copper foil type and weight for your design, with options including HVLP (Very Low Profile) ≤2.5 micron and RTF (Reverse Treat Foil), and copper weights from ½ to 2 oz. This flexibility allows for precise impedance control and signal integrity management.
  • Given its compatibility with FR-4 processes, I-Tera® MT40 can be processed using standard PCB manufacturing techniques, which include multiple reflow and lamination cycles, without the need for special through-hole treatments .

This material is also recognized for its robust mechanical properties, including high thermal stress resistance and excellent peel strength, which are critical for ensuring the durability and reliability of the PCB under various operating conditions.
