How to Use FaradFlex For Printed Circuit Boards

FaradFlex materials are specifically designed for use in printed circuit boards (PCBs) where high capacitance and low inductance are crucial. These materials are ideal for applications requiring tight control over electrical characteristics due to their consistent dielectric properties across different frequencies. For instance, the dielectric constant (Dk) values range from 3.5 to 4.4 at 1 GHz across various FaradFlex products, which helps in maintaining signal integrity in high-frequency applications .

When designing a PCB stackup using FaradFlex, it's important to consider the following aspects based on the material properties:

  • Dielectric Thickness: FaradFlex offers materials with varying dielectric thicknesses such as 8 µm, 12 µm, and 22 µm. Choosing the right thickness is crucial for impedance control and to meet the capacitance requirements of your design.
  • Thermal and Mechanical Properties: FaradFlex materials exhibit good thermal stability and mechanical strength, making them suitable for multilayer PCBs that undergo high thermal cycling. Their tensile strength and elongation percentages are suitable for robust PCB designs.
  • Electrical Performance: The breakdown voltage and peel strength of FaradFlex materials ensure reliability in both high voltage applications and during the physical assembly process of components on the PCB.

Moreover, FaradFlex materials are processed on both sides of the PCB, which allows for versatility in multilayer PCB designs. The materials are also tested for flammability and meet the UL 94 V0 standard, ensuring safety in end-use environments. When selecting FaradFlex for your PCB stackup, consider the specific requirements of your application in terms of signal speed, integrity, and environmental resilience to optimize the performance of your final product .
